How to remove your Scoot Skins and dress the hoof

Scoot Skins can be left on for a trimming cycle without bacteria build up under the hoof which can lead to many hoof health issues. The Skins self clean and the entire sole of the hoof can be flushed and medicated. This special feature saves effort and the expense of having to remove the boots to apply medicated hoof packing and re glue. At the same time the Skins still allow total sole protection.

Good concept, questionable execution

Purchased for a horse who’s shoes were ripped off over the summer, stomping for flies. Feet were too damaged to put conventional shoes back on & needed grow out time while protected.

I had them put on by my farrier, who followed the tutorial…

2.5 weeks on, the shoe has broken from the hoof wall cuff, both medial & lateral side, from the sole. This is not a horse that over reaches. Wildly disappointed as these are promised to be re-useable…(clearly they don’t hold up)…given the expense of ordering (exchange), glue, farrier work…etc.

Good concept; however, I’d avoid spending $$ given poor performance/longevity & just get a hoof boot (or regular shoes) instead.

Great! My mare loves them!

The boots were giving my sensitive mare rubs, even with the extra padding and with stretching out the material around her heels. Switched to the glue ons and it's been great! My mare loves them!

I am a fan of scoot boots but these lasted 2 days on and it was barefoot farrier who put them on. She said the inner sides which are glued to the hoof wall need to be a rough surface to stick well. Anyway, while I love my scoot boots I won’t be using the skins again

Great value

I am using scoot boot skins for the first time. It was a tad tricky learning to glue them on properly, but I think I finally have it sorted. These are a very good boot, design wise and functionally. I like not having to bother with boots each time I go to ride, and they provide support in the paddock when the ground gets hard, too.

With the correct prep work, I have found the shoes stay on with VetTec Superfast glue for well over a full trim cycle. Took some serious elbow grease to get these off. My horse is kept in a pasture with access to ponds that he likes to swim in. No issues with the shoes staying on. Prep work is key though. Shoes have lasted for 3 resets easily. I plan on resetting again, the shoe still has plenty of life left. I am using this with a horse who has thin soles, he struggles with chronic abscesses, well I should say he used too. We have been abscess-free for 1 year now, which is when we started using this shoe. He could not keep a nail on shoe on. His whole hoof has changed in the last year, his soles are much harder and the hoof wall no longer crumbles. He has been sound enough to ride. I can't say enough good things about these shoes!
